KS2, proportion of pupils achieving the Expected Standard, Reading and Writing and Maths – Reduce the gap between Disadvantaged and Non Disadvantaged Children

What does this mean?

The Council wants all children in the borough to have the best start in life and therefore monitors gaps in educational attainment.  A ‘Disadvantaged Pupil’ is defined as a pupil who has received free school meals or who has been in care.  Key Stage 2 refers to school years 3-6 when the pupils are normally aged between 7 and 11.

Why is this important?

This is important because the Council wants to make sure all children have the best start in life. Measuring the gap between children who receive free school meals and those who don’t gives the Council information on whether the education system is working for all the borough’s children.
